Prostatitis is when the prostate is colonised with bacteria. This bacteria have likely come from the bladder.
Signs and symptoms
It’s difficult to diagnose, but prostatitis can be the cause of recurrent UTI.
Usually the infection will go away while there are antibiotics in your body. But it may return very soon after you have stopped UTI treatment.
Treatment
Prostatitis is caused by the same bacteria as a UTI. So if the urine results show the same bacteria, and stones have been ruled out, treatment with an extended course of the right type of antibiotics is recommended. Speak to your spinal urology nurse for more information.
